The Historic Carrillo Ballroom

The Carrillo Recreation Center was built in 1914 by the Neighborhood House Assocation to serve the social and recreation needs of a growing Santa Barbara. One of it's most popular features was a spring-loaded dance floor in the ballroom. The Carrillo Recreation Center was one of the few buildings still standing downtown after the 1925 earthquake. In 1944, the Carrillo Recreation Center was saved from forclosure and taken over by the City of Santa Barbara. The Carrillo Ballroom still has a unique type of spring-loaded mechanism allowing the floor to 'give' under every step. We hope you'll visit this City Landmark building to experience the unique floor and great programs for yourself.
