Santa Barbara Dance Community Reponds to the health crisis

By Jonathan Bixby on Mar 14, 2020 at 05:52 PM

ALL DANCES HAVE BEEN CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
But Dance Communities throughout LA are all following this lead from health officials. Here's an email from Rusty Frank.

Dear Dance Community,

I hope all of you are staying safe and healthy... and washing your hands a lot!

As of March 12th 2020, I put all my dances and classes on hiatus until further notice. Because of my asthama, I also decided to "social distance" for the time being (as I suspect many of you out there are also doing).

What does this mean for me?

I think how lucky I am to have a cozy little home to stay in, all my Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies to watch, Buddy the Wonder Dog and Bigsie the Cat to cuddle, and a computer and phone to stay in touch with all of you.

What does this mean for us?

If you love dance, and are in a position to do so, support all the teachers you love so much. Many of them will be unemployed until we get through this. But it doesn't mean that you can't send money their way. You can signup for any on-line classes they have, visit their on-line stores and make a purchase, do a virtual private lesson with them, or donate what you would have paid for classes to them until they can start teaching again. And for all the musicians you love, go to their websites directly and buy their music (they'll get more when you buy from them than if you go to other sources).

You can support dancers and have a great time doing it!

If you feel like learning swing dancing or tap dancing, or improving on either/both of those... here's your opportunity! I have loads of instructional videos in my online store, and all the royalties are shared with the featured artists... so you'll be supporting these artists while you learn something new. I also have two lovely books available, one is mine, and the other written by my wonderful friend, Miriam Nelson. So maybe it's a nice to time to snuggle up under a blankie and read that good book. Why not take a look?

These are the people you can support with a purchase:

Tap Dancers: Brenda Bufalino, Denise Scheerer, Dorothy Wasserman, Sam Weber, and Steve Zee

Lindy Hoppers: Jean Veloz, Ron Campbell, and Ted Stanley

Musician Composers: Bill Elliott & Will Ryan

Whatever you decide to do, stay happy, stay healthy, and keep on dancing!

Let's hope we can meet very soon.

Now, go wash your hands, and don't touch your face!

DANCINGLY,

Rusty Frank
